PARTNER CONTENT Combine outdoor learning and conservation with this engaging initiative Big Schools’ Birdwatch CITIZEN SCIENCE Put those pledges for nature into action. Big Schools’ Birdwatch is the UK’s largest citizen science project for schools, producing data that’s sent to the RSPB to see how birds are faring across the country. Schools can also use their own year-on-year data to track changes in their area. OUTDOOR LEARNING It’s a meaningful reason to take learning outside and into the school grounds. Often, the project ignites a desire to improve school sites to support biodiversity, the impact of which can then be monitored via year-on-year Big Schools’ Birdwatch results. WELLBEING The numerous wellbeing benefits of outdoor learning are well documented. Schools can find it more challenging to take learning outside during winter months, but Big Schools’ Birdwatch can be delivered at any time during the first half of the Spring term.
